Paint Correction
Interior Detailing

This Ford GT pays tribute to the 1966 Le Mans-winning GT40 with iconic design, rare options, and a stunning detailing job that left it jaw-droppingly sleek.

Every once in a while a special car is created which is meant to excite the enthusiast base, and create a buzz for the brand. The Ford you see here is just that. A homage to a timeless and instantly recognizable shape, a special design collectively born of the ‘60’s, and Ford’s goal of beating Ferrari at LeMans. The GT shown here has a very similar color scheme as the 1966 LeMans winning GT40, which was Chassis P/1046. That car was piloted by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon and was finished in a Black with Silver stripes livery.

A laundry list of styling cues from the original ‘60’s GT40 cars can be found on this ‘05 GT. Among them are; large ducts at the front of the car, numerous NACA ducts, a “Gurney flap” at the rear, simple round tail lights, a window to see the engine, center exit exhaust, roof-cutouts when the doors are opened, toggle switches on the dashboard, a horizontal lineup of gauges, and that unmistakable low roofline. The car looks elegant sitting at a standstill; curvy, low, resting on its haunches. Of the four options that were available to buyers of Ford’s limited GT model, this car has all four. Multi-spoke BBS wheels, McIntosh stereo, stripes, and brake calipers that match the stripes.

This example was brought to us by the new owner for an interior cleaning, and paint correction prior to a PPF being applied. The intricate details inside the car, as well as the leather trim throughout were cleaned and treated. On the exterior, we thoroughly cleaned the wheels, removed contamination from the surface of the paint, wiped away old wax residue left by the previous owner, buffed out large areas of water spots, swirls, and scratches from the paint. You can see in our photos that the car polished up nicely, leaving the gloss black paint with great depth, and looking wet. It’s truly jaw-dropping under our lights.

We were happy to have this stunning car in the studio, and admittedly we were sad when it left. The lines and design cues throughout the car were satisfying to look at as we worked through our various steps and processes to make the car look truly impressive.

“My proudest moments are beating Ferrari for the World Championship in 1965, and working with Ford to win Le Mans in 1966 and 1967.”
