The Maserati MC20 is built in Modena Italy to a high standard, and with a supercar design language. A mid-mounted, Twin-Turbo V6 mated to a dual clutch, 8 speed gearbox work in conjunction to deliver 621 horsepower. The car looks both elegant and slightly aggressive thanks to a low slung body, and beautiful curves paired with multiple ducts and scoops.
Our client brought this beautiful car to us wondering if we could take care of a (very unfortunate) small scratch. He also mentioned that he felt the paint just didn’t really “pop” the way that it should. Yes, odd as it sounds, grey metallic paint can (and in our opinion should) “pop.”
Confident that we could help out, we inspected the paint under our lights and found that there were a few issues hindering the possibility of the paint looking as nice as we knew it could. The first being that there were a number of imperfections in the paint’s surface as well as “holograms” covering a majority of the car. Our client also informed us that a local shop had applied a System X Coating before preparing the paint surface, effectively locking in the imperfections and “holograms.” That’s a great example of why we take preparation before applying a ceramic coating so seriously.
We had our work cut out for us. Removing the overly thick System X Coating was a slow, tedious process. However, once removed, the look of the car improved immediately. The paint was clearer, lighter in color, the metallic in the paint was much more visible, the orange peel of the old coating was eliminated, and the styling lines of the car were once again crisp. After paint correction to take care of imperfections, we applied a professional ceramic coating to the paint.
After the exterior work was complete, we completed a quick interior detail. This MC20 turned out amazing. Stunning really, even in an understated color like a metallic gray, known by Maserati as Grigio Mystero. The work we completed really changed the look of this gorgeous car; paint that is clearer with more depth, scratches, and swirls, are gone, and because the paint is in much better condition the beautiful lines of the car stand out more.
